Abstraction

outback plants abstract

This small piece is inspired by the colours of grasses and spinifex that grow on the pink sandhills in the northwest of Western Australia.

The soft orangey pink sand is covered by the greens, greys and soft yellows of the grasses and spinifex which have a fragile soft look when the wind blows and the grasses and seed heads move. The darker spots are the shadows that the strong sun casts.

I had fun creating this small study using gouache on paper.
