Roadside bush recovering from a bushfire

burnt bush recovering 35x55cms gouache pencil

This part of the woodland between Hyden and Norseman in Western Australia is recovering from a fire that swept through a year or so ago. The black sticks of the burnt scrub stand above the new vegetation drawing your eye to the flat horizon that would not have been visible before the fire.

I used gouache and pencil in this piece – it’s about 35cm by 55cms.
