Mt Augustus rockface

Mt Augustus rock face 30x23 gouache pencil

This is a drawing of a rockface on the north-eastern side of Mt Augustus or Burringurrah. Mt Augustus is a huge monocline with large rock faces at the top of the ridge and broken rocky slopes below where a few tough bushes survive. It’s one of the largest rocks in Australia – you can read more about it here.

I was trying to get the feeling of the height and immensity of the rock when you look at it from the flat surrounding landscape. This is a small preparatory sketch for a larger work that I am planning to do soon. However, with the festive season upon us, it may take some time to complete.

In the meantime, best wishes to everyone who has checked out my blog in the last year. Knowing you have been interested in my work has been very affirming – thank you!

Sue
