The Arch at La Defence

One of the places we like to go to when we are in Paris is the area called La Defence. It’s the part of Paris that is unlike the rest of the city – it’s full of contemporary office buildings and stunning public art. From the Grande Arche on top of the hill at La Defence you can look down across the Seine towards the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysee. The long boulevard at La Defence steps down the hill and on every level there are interesting buildings and sculptures to enjoy. It’s a great excursion out of the old city and it’s on the metro line.

An intriguing garden with windows into a lower level.

Another view of the stunning visual effect of the roof garden.

A shallow rooftop lake with sculptures by Greek sculptor Takis and a view of the Arc de Triomphe in the distance.
